Blackjack Strategy Cheat Sheet: Single Deck Blackjack

A couple of weeks ago we posted a Blackjack Strategy Cheat Sheet which was a huge success.  Apparently, like me, a lot of people would rather look at a card that tells them the best way to play instead of figuring it out themselves.  Amen!  I’ve been taking shortcuts since I started using a stencil for my finger paintings in Kindergarten.

All of the blackjack fans out there are also probably aware that there are many different ways to play the game.  There are games with anywhere from 1 to 8 decks, different rules for when the dealer hits, and even rules for when you can double down.

When the rules change, the strategies change.  To make sure you are playing with the perfect blackjack strategy, we are bringing you a whole series of blackjack strategy cheat sheets that will have you covered for any blackjack game you find yourself in.

Single Deck Blackjack

This blackjack strategy card covers the best moves you can make if you are playing a game of blackjack with one deck.  While these games are hard to find in casinos these days, there may still be some “friendly” single deck games being played in the basements of seedy restaurants and bars across the nation.

I’m not here to judge.  If you happen to be playing in one of these games, use the strategies in this blackjack cheat sheet for the best odds of winning.

Blackjack Strategy Card Glossary

Right under the Silver Oak Casino logo at the top of the cheat sheet, you will see some abbreviations to remind you of which kind of game to use this card with.  Since there are so many different kinds of blackjack, this card is to be used with the rules outlined on the cheat sheet.  Here is a quick breakdown of what those abbreviations mean:

  • 1 Deck- All of the cards in the blackjack game are dealt from one deck.
  • S17- The dealer stands on a soft 17.  A soft 17 is an Ace and a 6, or an Ace and any other combination of cards which can add up to either 17 or 7 due to the Ace.  If you want a more thorough explanation of soft 17, see the online blackjack page.
  • DAS- Stands for “Double After Split”.  This means the player can double down after they have already split their cards.
  • No Surrender- To surrender in blackjack means you give up before the end of the hand.  Generally you would receive half of your original bet back.  No surrender means this option is not available in the game.
  • Peek- This means the dealer peeks at his card to make sure he doesn’t have blackjack (21) before continuing the hand.  This is the standard way of playing blackjack in the USA.

Final Thoughts

Before you sit down at the blackjack table, make sure you know what the rules of the game are, as this changes the strategy you should use.  When you find yourself at a blackjack table with the rules outlined above, pull out this strategy card for the best odds of winning!
